Did as described. For Ultegra brakes so you can used the standard bleeding kit.
Well..there was a big problem with the adapter. The Shimano funnel would not hold in the adapter, as the threads would not engage. Hence the funnel would not stay in place, but me being a Engineer I removed some of the shoulder off the top end to allow the threads to engage Hence allowing the O ring to seal. Plus I was expecting a plastic adapter and not a aftermarket metal one. Bob
Avoid this like the plague. There is nothing wrong with it, it is a perfectly good piece of kit but made out of metal for extreme durability is not good. The R8070 levers are plastic / resin. If you cross thread it when inserting, you will wreck the threads on the body of the brake housing (£200 if you can get hold of them ATM). A soft plastic one will get wrecked and leave your expensive brakes unscathed. Fortunately I realised I had a crossed thread before I put a spanner on it. I will however be ordering a plastic funnel shortly as I have a worn master cylinder which requires a new lever.
Hey Richard. Thanks for sharing this. Unless the adapter is cross-threaded AND tightened down with a spanner, or similar tool, then no damage to the brake will result. If there's somebody out there who can strip a set of threads using this adapter with their bare hands then I wouldn't like to shake hands with them! We only ever recommend tightening bleed fittings by hand and never to use tools. There is rarely any need for the use of tools when attaching bleed fittings and it is usually counter-productive to do so as it will simply deform the o-ring resulting in a poor seal. I hope this helps to alleviate any uncertainty.
Works well. Nice to be metal rather than the flimsy shimano plastic ones
This is a great adaptor that is vital for bleeding new di2 ultegra brake systems. 1st class service as always! In fact you could go as far as saying.....epic!!
